Text to Slug Converter

Turn any title into a clean, lowercase URL slug with hyphens or underscores, and accents removed.

How to use it

  1. Type or paste your title.
  2. Choose hyphen or underscore as the separator.
  3. Copy the slug and use it in your web address.

How it works and why it matters

A URL slug is the readable part of a web address, such as /best-free-tools-for-writers. Good slugs are lowercase, use hyphens between words, and leave out accents and symbols. This tool does all of that. Accented Latin letters (for example é) become their plain versions. Letters from other scripts, such as Bengali, are removed, so write those slugs by hand or use a Latin transliteration. Turn on small-word removal for shorter slugs, for example 'tools-writers-bloggers-2026'.

Questions

Why use hyphens instead of underscores?

Google treats hyphens as word separators. Underscores are often read as joining words together, so hyphens are the usual choice for web addresses.

Why are my Bengali letters missing?

This tool keeps only English letters and numbers in the slug. Write a Latin version of the title for the address.

Does it check that the slug is unused?

No. It only formats the text. Check your own site for duplicates.
