How it works and why it matters
Base64 turns binary or text data into a string of letters, numbers and a few symbols. Developers use it to send data inside URLs, JSON, HTML and email headers, and to read values that have been encoded this way. Base64 is an encoding, not encryption, so it should not be used to hide secrets. The Image tab converts a picture to a Base64 data URL in your browser, which is handy for small icons embedded in CSS or HTML.

Questions
Is Base64 encryption?
No. Anyone can decode Base64 instantly. It only makes data safe to transport in text form, not private.
Why does my decoded text look wrong?
The input may not be valid Base64, or it may be binary data (such as an image) that cannot be shown as text.
Does this support emoji and accents?
Yes. The tool uses UTF-8, so characters such as ñ, ü and emoji encode and decode correctly.
